Hollow Knight, developed by Team Cherry, is a 2D action and exploration game — a metroidvania — set in Hallownest, a vast underground kingdom of insects ravaged by an infection. You play a small silent character armed with a nail, who descends deeper and deeper into wholly different areas: drowned cities, crystal mines, verdant gardens, putrid canals. The game does not hold your hand: there is neither marker nor quest log and even the map must be bought area by area from a cartographer you first have to track down.
