VMware vSphere Hypervisor (ESXi) 8 – CD key

VMware vSphere Hypervisor, also called ESXi, is a “bare metal” type hypervisor: it installs directly on the server, with no host operating system underneath, which allows it to use the hardware very efficiently. On a single physical server, you then run several independent virtual machines — a file server, a web server, a test machine — each with its own system. This reference concerns generation 8.

What ESXi 8 allows

• Bare-metal virtualisation — the hypervisor takes up a minimal footprint and leaves the bulk of the resources to the virtual machines.
• Environment isolation — an incident on one virtual machine does not affect the others.
• Resource allocation — number of cores, amount of memory and disk space defined machine by machine.
• Web administration interface — creating, starting, stopping and monitoring the machines from a browser, with no thick client.
• Snapshots — capture of a machine's state before an update, with a rollback if the result is not suitable.

Compatibility

64-bit x86 servers appearing on the VMware hardware compatibility list for ESXi 8. The processor must support hardware virtualisation instructions. Note: generation 8 drops support for certain older controllers, so it is wise to check your hardware before installation.

Activation

Your licence key is sent by e-mail within 24 hours maximum. Install ESXi on the server, open the web administration interface, go to “Manage” then “Licensing” and enter the key provided to replace the evaluation licence.
