Support for Windows 7 has ended. Microsoft no longer releases any security updates for this system. A machine running Windows 7 exposed to the Internet no longer receives fixes for the flaws discovered since. We tell you plainly: this licence is not intended to serve as a main system connected to the Internet. It meets other, entirely legitimate needs.

• Older hardware — a computer whose drivers exist only for Windows 7 and which no recent system supports.
• Virtual machines — recreating an isolated Windows 7 environment to test software or reproduce a technical context.
• Incompatible business software — older professional applications, certified only under Windows 7, on an off-network workstation.
• Equipment control — machines and measuring devices whose control software was never ported to a more recent system.

Activation

The activation key reaches you by email within 24 hours maximum. It is entered during installation or from Control Panel › System › Activate Windows. Depending on how old the installation is, online activation may require going through Microsoft's phone service.
