Windows 7 Pro added to the home edition the features expected in a business: domain join, incoming Remote Desktop, network backup and above all the famous Windows XP Mode. This Retail licence covers 1 PC.

Important information before purchase

Windows 7 is no longer supported by Microsoft: no more security updates are released. Using this system as a main workstation connected to the Internet exposes the machine to unpatched flaws. We prefer to put it in writing rather than pass over it in silence. This licence is aimed at specific situations, described below.

The uses for which this licence still makes sense

• Older business software — applications certified only under Windows 7, run on a workstation isolated from the network.
• Virtual machines — recreating a Windows 7 test or development environment in Hyper-V, VMware or VirtualBox.
• Older hardware — a computer whose drivers exist only for this generation of Windows.
• Computer-controlled equipment — workshop machines, measuring or laboratory devices whose control software has not evolved.

What the Pro edition offered

• Windows XP Mode — a virtualised XP environment to run even older applications.
• Incoming Remote Desktop — the workstation accepts incoming connections.
• Join to an Active Directory domain and group policy.
• Backup to a network location and EFS encrypting file system.
• Full Aero interface — Aero Peek, Aero Snap, taskbar previews.

Activation

The activation key reaches you by email within 24 hours maximum. Enter it during installation or from Control Panel › System › Activate Windows. On such an old system, activation may require going through Microsoft's voice service; our support in French can guide you.
