The Outlast Trials is the co-op instalment of the horror series by Red Barrels. Set at the height of the Cold War, the game puts you in the shoes of a test subject forcibly recruited by the Murkoff Corporation to undergo a series of conditioning experiments. In practice, you are dropped into enclosed settings — a police station, an amusement park, an orphanage — with objectives to accomplish and pursuers who cannot be fought. The only possible response is fleeing, hiding and coordinating with your teammates.

• No lethal weapon — you do not fight, you hide, you run, you close doors and you divert attention.
• Night vision — battery-limited goggles, inherited from the series, essential in the dark.
