OEM or Retail: the difference

An OEM licence is permanently tied to the motherboard of the first computer on which it is activated. It is not transferable to another machine and replacing the motherboard may invalidate the activation. A Retail licence, on the other hand, can be uninstalled from one PC and then reactivated on another. Choose OEM for a machine you do not plan to replace.

Activation
