Windows XP Pro is the enterprise variant of the 2001 system: it added to the home edition domain join, incoming Remote Desktop, EFS encryption and support for two processors. This Retail licence covers 1 PC.

Important information before purchase

Windows XP has no longer been maintained since 2014. No security update is published by Microsoft since that date. This system must not serve as a main workstation connected to the Internet: known flaws are numerous and permanently uncorrected. We prefer to tell you this clearly before purchase. This licence does, however, retain real usefulness in particular technical contexts.

The uses for which this licence still makes sense

• Control of machines and instruments — industrial, measurement or laboratory equipment whose control software never left XP, operated on an offline workstation.
• Old business software — accounting, technical or vertical applications certified for XP only.
• Isolated virtual machines — recreating an XP environment in VMware, VirtualBox or Hyper-V for testing or archiving.
• Period hardware — acquisition cards, serial or parallel peripherals without a modern driver.

What the Pro edition brought

• Active Directory domain join and Group Policy.
• Incoming Remote Desktop — the workstation accepts incoming connections, unlike the home edition.
• EFS encrypted file system — folder encryption at the NTFS level.
• Support for two physical processors and 4 GB of RAM.

Activation

The activation key is sent by email within 24 hours maximum. It is entered during installation. On this system, activation is generally carried out via Microsoft's voice service: you dictate the installation ID displayed by Windows and copy back the confirmation ID obtained.
