Windows 7 Ultimate was the most complete edition of Windows 7: it brought together all the features of the Pro edition and added BitLocker and the multilingual language packs. This Retail licence covers 1 PC.

Important information before purchase

Support for Windows 7 has come to an end: Microsoft no longer releases security updates for this system. A Windows 7 workstation connected to the Internet in daily use presents a real risk, and we do not encourage you to make it your main system. This licence finds its justification in particular contexts.

The uses for which this licence still makes sense

• Virtual machines — recreating a complete Windows 7 environment for testing, training or development.
• Older hardware — computers whose drivers exist only for this generation.
• Incompatible business software — applications certified for Windows 7 only, on a workstation kept off the network.
• Multilingual workstations — the Ultimate edition is the only one to allow the installation of all interface languages.

What the Ultimate edition offered

• BitLocker and BitLocker To Go — encryption of the system disk and USB keys, absent from the lower editions.
• Complete language packs — switching the interface between 35 languages.
• Windows XP Mode — virtualised XP environment for earlier applications.
• Incoming Remote Desktop, domain and group policy — all the professional features.
• Booting from a VHD virtual hard disk — useful for deployment or system testing.

Activation

The activation key is sent by email within 24 hours maximum. It is entered during installation or from Control Panel › System › Activate Windows. Recourse to Microsoft's phone activation service is sometimes necessary on this older system.
